Class highlights

In JOURN 2 I learned a lot of things about media literacy. I no longer can watch a movie the sam because of what I learned on product placement. When I see an ad in a movie I scream out "oh look, look product placement."  It would no longer be the same when im watching TV or seeing a movie and it wont be the same for my friends because they have to hear me say that everytime I see product placement. The first amendment is a big part in media because it basically means that you can put anything that you want out there for the public to see and if someone gets upset then oh well theres nothing you can do about it because there protected from the First Amendment.

Media Ethics/Media Law

In October 27, 2012 a student from Thailand was trying to earn extra money but instead was sued for copyright because he was selling foreign editions of textbooks online. He lost the case but later appealed to the Supreme court with many arguments like intellectual property and owners rights. I thought this case was really interesting because it relates to my experience in college because it is expensive and students would try to do anything just to get some extra money in our pockets,

I use the Internet all the time for all sorts of things but the most I use it on is probably gaming. I wouldn't want to be online dating with anyone I just think its weird because behind the computer the person can be anybody. My friend is addicted to online shopping, she is always talking about her deals that she finds online and all the good clothes she finds that's not at stores. She has a problem because she spends almost her entire pay checks on online shopping at Nordstrom, Abercrombie and Fitch etc. Now she has some what resolved her problem because she limits the amounts of money she can use for online shopping.

Movies

My favorite movie in 2013 is Iron Man 3. It was a very thrilling movie to watch and it kept me hooked through out the whole 2 hour 30 minute movie. My all time favorite movie is holes, based on the book. I've watched holes over 100 times and still haven't gotten tired of watching Stanley yelnats live in a correctional camp.

Magazines

Comicholics magazine
Concept:
It is a magazine that shows the people's voted super hero of the week and where new comics can be advertised. It's like the game former magazine but for comic books.

Readers:
It should atract all ages of comic book readers male and female. Any comic book lover who wants to find out what's up in the comic industry.

Competition:
This magazine shows comics instead of games so its different then other magazines that are out there but  Our closest competion will be gameformer and other video game magazines because they also show some characters in comics

I would include: the hot new comic releases that happen that month, the months top seller, the super hero of the week, new comics in the future, background stories to new comics.

My cover shows what's this issue about and who is the winner of the superhero of the week. I really liked this superman picture that I found and so I thought it was a good expression to show that Superman won the hero of the week.

Books

In the past I have read plenty of books but the three most influential ones are Lord of the Flies,  Macbeth and Bless me Ultima. In lord of the flies, kids are stranded on an island where they turn on each other and become animals. I think it's trying to send a message about war and how it turns normal people into animals and how unnecessary it is. In Macbeth I learned that there's always someone out there trying to plot against you and you should be catiuous with others. In Bless me Ultima, it thought me a lot about religion and what I think about it. This book showed that people don't always fall into a category that people expect them to be in but you can change because of all the different things out there.

Media Impact

On YouTube I found a video about a girl who flashed a guy on a video chatting website because he had convinced her to do so. A Year later the guy found her on Facebook and said he was going to expose her breast to the world including family. He ended up sending the picture of her out to everyone and even the police got involved. She moved away but they guy made a page on Facebook all about her and the profile picture was her breast. She became very detested because everyone saw her and that caused to be on various medications for ani-depression. Facebook helped everyone see her flashing.
She tried moving on by switching schools, where she met a guy friend. She hooked up with him because he made her believe that he really cared about her but was just really using her. The other problem was that he had a girlfriend and they ended up getting into a fight. She was so depressed that she tried to kill herself by drinking bleach but was taken to the emergency room soon enough. She moved schools again and was starting to feel better with her life but that. Soon ended when people from her old school posted bleach related post and tagged her in it. When she saw all those posts, that she was tagged in, she really broke down and started cutting herself.

The media had a very big part in breaking down this girl who just made a couple mistakes in believing in guys to much. If it wasn't for the media it wouldn't have gotten so bad and the guy who took her picture of her flashing wouldn't have been able to share the picture with the world and people also wouldn't be able to tag her in rude comments of what she did to herself because of things she saw on the media.

Media Autobiography

Books:

• I read all sorts of kinds of books back in high school, from non-fiction to poetry 
•  I enjoy reading but I am not the best reader
• I dislike that they can be very challenging
• I like that books can get me easily hooked
• Books aren't as important as how they where when I was younger

Newspaper:

• I dont really read the newspaper
• It's not that important to me because I don't actually read newspapers

Magazines

• I just look at magazines when I'm bored at the grocery store or at the hospital
• I like that they have plenty picture about celebrities and other cool stuff
• I think magazines are more important to me now because I never read them before when I was younger

Movies:

• I love movies I watch like 20 a week
• I like that there is a huge variety of them
• Dislike that some are bad quality eventhough there good movies
• They are very important to my past and now

Recordings:

• I listen to a lot of music when I'm in the car on the way to places
• Like that there's a huge variety of songs 
• Dislike that they sometimes overplay good music
• It is more important to me now because I listen to more music now then when I was younger

Radio:

• I listen to the radio mainly in the car between locations
• Like that I hear new music
• Dislike all the commercials
• More important now since I listen to more music

TV:

• Don't really watch a lot of television just do everything on my phone
• Like new shows are seen in tv first
• Dislike Long commercials
• 
  

        Media is a very interesting thing because it allows people to see what is going on in the world right now, future and past. I think if I would ever get a job in the media it would be to maybe work on the radio because I think that would be very fun to just play music and talk about what celebrities are doing wrong around the world.  I am still undecided on what my major is but I am looking into some different classes like journalism so that can have a more broder idea towards if I would actually want to stick with working with media.
